Edgar Earl (Buddy) Thompson was born in Grenada Mississippi on January 22, 1947 and passed away on July 12, 2016. He graduated from John Rundle High School in 1965 and later from Mississippi State University, where he received his BA and MA degrees. Buddy taught English for many years and then followed his passion becoming a skilled photographer. He and his wife, Beverly, were a true team of photographers, complementing each other’s skills. Buddy was an avid reader, loved animals, and was a faithful member and leader at the First Presbyterian Church in Grenada. He had a true ecumenical outlook, always looking for new opportunity to help others.
The Marie Maxey Foundation is honored to provide a $500 scholarship in memory of Buddy Thompson. Our intent is to raise a $500 match from Buddy's friends and associates to award a total scholarship of $1,000 at the end of December 2023, to a deserving young person in Grenada that is pursuing a higher education or technical certification. Anyone wishing to donate to Buddy's scholarship can do so at the link below.
To apply for the scholarship please send a 500 word or less narrative to firstname.lastname@example.org on the challenges you have overcome in pursuing an education and how you plan to use the skills you are acquiring to help your community

The Dulce Deinken Scholarship for $1,000 was provided to Micah House in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. This scholarship was for job skills training for Daniel (one of the young men at Micah House). Daniel is battling drug addiction and trying to create a life off the street. His story is so poignant and such an example God's mercy that we were moved to help. Given Dulce's Honduran roots, we know she would have approved. See Daniel's story here.
August 7, 1954 - December 15, 2021
The Dilian Deal Scholarship for $1,000 was provided to Casa del Lago in Dallas, Texas. This scholarship sponsored a summer camp program for Daniel to grow in the Lord, improve his reading skills and make new friends. We believe this kind of investment pays huge dividends.

Donal Mateo Feijoo Zambrano was awarded the Christopher Goughnour Memorial Scholarship on January 23, 2023, at Bryant High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Mateo has enrolled in Northern Virginia Community College under the "Dream Catchers" program which provides support for students to transition from community college to George Mason University. His major is in industrial psychology. We believe that the dedication Mateo has shown in his studies will continue in his college career.
This scholarship honors the memory of Christopher and his devotion to our country as an Army Ranger. Christopher served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and was a loving father and husband. He tragically passed away in 2018 – he was 38 years old.
