The 2024 Dulce Deinken Scholarship - $1,000

The Dulce Deinken scholarship will help a student in Fairfax County, Virginia, attend college (2 or 4 year), technical school, or an apprenticeship program in healthcare. We intend to award this scholarship to a graduate from an underserved community.

Please see the information below.

Geographic Location: Applicant must be a resident of Fairfax County, Virginia, and a graduate of Justice High School, Mount Vernon High School, or John Lewis High School.

Selection Criteria: Applicant must submit: (1) proof of acceptance to college, technical school, or an apprenticeship program in healthcare; (2) a 500-word or less essay describing the challenges you have overcome and the actions you have taken to move forward with your dream of a healthcare career; and (3) any additional information that highlights a commitment to a healthcare career. Note: Completing the Fairfax County Health Department's "Public Health Youth Ambassadors Program" (PHYAP) would significantly strengthen an application, as would including a copy of the applicant's PHYAP "project."

Submission Process: A student can apply for this scholarship by sending the following via email or postal mail: (1) proof of enrollment in a college, technical school, or apprenticeship healthcare training program; (2) 500 word or less essay on the challenges faced and actions taken to pursue a healthcare career; and (3) any additional information that can demonstrate your commitment to a career in healthcare (e.g., participation in programs like the PHYAP).  The email or postal mail with this information should be submitted to Michael Maxey (email: michael@maxeys.org) or mailed to the Marie Maxey Foundation, 5525 Talon Court, Fairfax, Virginia 22032.

Deadline for Submission: All submissions must be received by August 31, 2024. You will receive an email confirmation of your submission. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in September 2024.
