Memorial Scholarship

The Marie Maxey Foundation is providing a scholarship in memory of Ambassador Palmer for a young person attending Bluefield State University.

The Marie Maxey Foundation is providing up to a $1,000 scholarship ($500 from our foundation matching $500 from private or public sources) in memory of Ambassador Palmer for a young person attending Bluefield State University (a Historically Black College & University in West Virginia) who is interested in a career in foreign affairs.
 

The 2024 Larry Palmer Scholarship

 

The Larry Palmer scholarship will help a young person attending Bluefield State University in Bluefield, West Virginia, continue their higher education.  Please see the information below.

 

Geographic Location: You must be enrolled and resident at Bluefield State University.

 

Selection Criteria: You must provide proof of enrollment at Bluefield State University. You must provide a 500-word or less essay describing the challenges you have overcome to move forward with your education.  The essay should be on the following theme: “What is the biggest obstacle I have overcome in life and what did I learn from it?”  

 

Submission Process: Please submit your essay along with your name, mailing address, and proof of enrollment in a college, technical school, or apprenticeship program to Michael Maxey (email: michael@maxeys.org) or mailed to the Marie Maxey Foundation, 5525 Talon Court, Fairfax, Virginia 22032.

 

Deadline for Submission: All submissions must be received by August 15, 2024.  Receipt of submissions will be confirmed by email.  All submissions will be reviewed and a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in September 2024. Please note that the scholarship check will be sent to the student's account at their college or technical school.
